How Emerging Designers Stand Out

Models: $11,000. Runway photographer: $1,000. Music: $2,000. And that’s the budget just for an emerging designer. Imagine the expenses an established designer accrues when putting on a show at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, starting last Friday.

There’s no way around the costs involved with showing wares on one of fashion’s biggest stages. Putting together a runway show under the tents at Bryant Park is so expensive, in fact, that up-and-coming designers are looking to alternative channels to show their collections. Some are getting a helping hand from organizations set up specifically to help emerging designers, while others are taking to the Internet. More…
