OmniaLuo, Inc., a China-based company engaged in designing, developing, marketing and distributing fine women’s apparel under the brand name OMNIALUO, completed its first fashion show in the United States on Friday September 12 by presenting its Spring-Summer 2009 collection at the Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. The closing look of OMNIALUO Spring-Summer 2009 show, a hand-dyed rosy pink gown made of several layers of light silk, was another romantic and feminine hit. Chinese supermodel Xiaoyi Dai walked down the runway in the extravagant evening gown.

“OMNIALUO symbolizes the entrance of Mainland Chinese fashion design into the international arena,” wrote China Fashion Week ( http://www.cfw.com.cn ), a reputable Chinese apparel publication, on September 12, 2008. This echoes with an article titled “To Win Over China, Come to New York” written by Mary Bridges in Portfolio, a Conde Nast publication, on September 12, 2008. The article highlights the increased international exposure of OmniaLuo through the New York Fashion Week.

According to the article, the runway show in Bryant Park will significantly help increase brand awareness in the Company’s main market, China. More…

The Washington Post has launched FW, a high-end fashion magazine aimed at sophisticated shoppers in the Washington, D.C.-metro area. FW will capture the hottest trends in fashion as well as the local designers, boutique owners and famous faces making up the increasingly stylish DC-scene.

FW becomes one of the only glossy publications in the Metro-area devoted to covering high-end fashion, and presents it in a way that will help readers interpret those trends locally. The newspaper-sized, glossy format will provide stunning visuals of upscale fashions that complement smart editorial coverage on what to wear and how to wear it.

“I have always thought of Washington as a very glamorous place. With more and more high-end boutiques, emerging local designers and savvy shoppers, D.C. is proving once and for all that it is a fashion capital,” said Katharine Weymouth, Publisher, The Washington Post. “FW is going to reflect that fact, and I believe we have assembled an incredible team to deliver all of this fashion news to our readers.”

Every month, FW’s cover story — usually shot on location at one of the most interesting places in Washington — will focus on a hot trend. The first issue’s feature was shot at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, Maryland. “Take Five” gets local celebrities to dish on five style questions, with the initial set answered by the District’s First Lady Michelle Fenty. “The Style-Setter” profiles leaders in the fashion world, and “Scene Stealers” shows who is wearing what and to which parties around town.

Other features include an advice column, trend tips and more. More…

The Verge Breakthrough show has always been a launchpad for new Kiwi designers and this year’s show at New Zealand Fashion Week was no exception.

Designers Michelle Yvette, Sable & Minx, Deuchar, Emma and Ana Steele had a chance to show delegates what they were made of.

Michelle Yvette was the proud recipient of a $10,000 dollar grant to help further her career.

She showed a collection of classically feminine pieces, and her standout pieces included a beautiful red wool wrap coat.

Sable & Minx showed a collection based on black and gold that designer Theresa Brady calls ‘classic streetwear for the sophisticated woman’.

Deuchar designer Kelllie Chapman showed a fantastic range of separates with a hint of French tailoring - high-waisted skirts paired with mustard knits and jackets that were pleated and gathered to create a soft, flattering silhouette. More…

Why do some designers come right down the runway at the end of their show and others never come out at all?

Some love the roar of the crowd and the moment of glory, others are a lot shyer about it. They may just pop their heads out from backstage, or if you’re lucky, come halfway down the runway. If you’re really unlucky, they may do as Paris-based designer Martin Margiela does, or rather doesn’t.

He’s known as the most mysterious man in fashion because he never has his photo taken and has never been seen on his own runway after a show. More…
